Price, Purcell Lead Women's Water Polo to Seventh-Place at CWPA Easterns

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Shannon Purcell and Aisha Price scored three goals apiece and goalies Ariel Dukes and Jasmine Griffin anchored the defensive effort as the Harvard women's water polo team cruised past Bucknell, 11-3, in the CWPA Eastern Championship seventh-place game.
The win was Harvard's fourth victory over the Bison this season.
Harvard opened the game with a two-goal lead, with tallies at the 6:45 and 4:57 marks of the first quarter. Purcell initiated the scoring and A. Price gave the Crimson a 2-0 lead with a man-up goal.
Monica Zdrojewski batted in a goal at 4:54 to extended Harvard's lead in the second stanza. After Julianne Valdes put Bucknell on the board to make the score 3-1, the Crimson offense went on a three-goal run in just over three minutes. A. Price, Purcell and Lizzie Abbott found the back of the cage to build a 6-1 and gain control of the game.
Bucknell scored to make the score 6-2 entering halftime, but Devan Kennifer quickly moved the lead back to five in the opening minute of the third period. Kennifer's tally was her tenth in four games at the tournament.
Harvard continued to score throughout the second half and Dukes and Griffin held Bucknell to one goal in the final 16 minutes. Shayna Price, Zrojewski A. Price and Purcell rounded out the scoring for the Crimson.
Dukes ended the game with seven saves, while Griffin denied a shot in the fourth quarter.
The Crimson ended the season with a 17-12 record, its second straight season over .500. It is the first time Harvard has accomplished the feat since 2004 and '05.
