Women's Water Drops 7-5 Decision to No. 12 Indiana at CWPA Eastern Championship
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Harvard women's
water polo team dropped a CWPA Eastern Championship tournament
match to No. 12 Indiana, 7-5, Saturday afternoon. Devan
Kennifer and Monica Zdrojewski score two goals apiece to keep
the Crimson in the match.
Harvard fell behind 5-1 early in the match, as Zdrojewski was the
only Crimson player to score in the first 14 minutes of the
contest. The senior scored at the 3:57 mark of the first
quarter.
Needing a quick run to get back in the game, Harvard scored a pair
of goals in the final 1:36 of the half to get within two.
Zdrojewski found the back of the cage with 1:36 left in the second
stanza, before Victoria
Frager scored 17 seconds later.
The Crimson trailed by three in the fourth quarter, but would not
back down as Kennifer and Aisha Price put
Harvard within one goal with 6:48 remaining. Kennifer and Price had
back-to-back tallies at the 7:09 and 6:48 marks.
Indiana's defense stepped up in the final minutes, as the Hoosiers
kept the Crimson scoreless in the last 6:48 and added a goal to put
away Harvard.
Zdrojewski also added four steals in the game and Ariel Dukes
made nine stops in goal.
Harvard moves to the tournament's seventh-place game, where they
will face Bucknell at noon tomorrow. The Crimson is 3-0 against the
Bison this season.
