Women's Water Polo Suffers Setback to No. 11 Hartwick to Open Northern Division Play

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Harvard women's water polo team fell Saturday evening to No. 11 Hartwick, 15-8. The Crimson sinks to 11-10 on the year and 0-1 in the CWPA Northern Division. The Hawks move to 19-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Harvard hung with Hartwick in the first quarter, trailing by just a goal at the first intermission. The Hawks increased their lead to four goals as the Crimson fell behind 10-6 at halftime. Hartwick buckled down defensively in the second half, allowing Harvard to score two goals. The Hawks outscored the Crimson in the second half 5-2 to cruise to victory.

Devan Kennifer lead Harvard in scoring with five goals while also drawing five kick outs. Roxanne Pinto, Shannon Purcell and Patricia Smith all tallied a single score against the Hawks. Between the posts, Laurel McCarthy turned aside four shots.

The Crimson will host Northern Division foe Brown in its next contest. Harvard will face the Bears April 14 at Blodgett Pool.
