CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's volleyball team will play 12 matches at the Malkin Athletic Center in 2017, opening the season at home on Sept. 1 against Stony Brook (7 p.m.), head coach Jennifer Weiss announced today.
"We are excited about our upcoming 2017 fall schedule," Weiss said. "It is always important to play a strong out of league schedule in order to prepare for Ivy league play."
Harvard, which recorded its fourth top-4 finish in a row in Ivy League play last season, will play a total of 23 matches with 14 Ivy League contests. Conference play for the Crimson will begin on Sept. 22 with a home match against Dartmouth. Harvard will play 18 of its 23 matches on the Ivy League Digital Network.
"There is always so much parity in the Ivy league, it is important to prepare and be well trained for every match," Weiss said. "Playing the tougher opponents early in September will only make us stronger for in league competition."
Harvard's season will begin with three home games, as the Crimson will follow the Stony Brook contest with matches against defending NEC regular season champion Sacred Heart and defending Patriot League champion and NCAA qualifier American on Sept. 2.
The Crimson will head to Dayton, Ohio the following weekend for the Wright State Tournament with matches against Wright State, West Virginia, and Tennessee Tech on Sept. 8-9.
Harvard will play its final three non-conference games against Boston College at home (Sept. 14), at Northeastern (Sept. 15), and UMass-Lowell (Sept. 16) at home as part of the sixth-annual New England Challenge.
The Crimson will play three straight Ivy contests at home starting with the Dartmouth match and followed by contests against Cornell (Sept. 29) and Columbia (Sept. 30). Harvard plays road contests at Penn and Princeton on Oct. 6-7 before returning home to play Brown and Yale on Oct. 13-14.
A five match road swing in conference play begins with a road contest at Dartmouth (Oct. 20). Harvard will play at Columbia and Cornell (Oct. 27-28) and at Yale and Brown (Nov. 3-4) before returning home to wrap up the regular season with matches against Princeton and Penn. (Nov. 10-11).
