Wallace, Bain rewarded with Ivy League awards after a 2-0 weekend (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Kathleen Wallace and freshman Corinne Bain have swept the Ivy League weekly awards with Wallace receiving her first ever Player of the Week honor and Bain picking up her third Rookie of the Week nod.
Wallace paced the Crimson attack as Harvard defeated both Brown and Yale to improve to 12-7 overall, 7-3 in the Ivy League. The San Francisco, Calif., native finished the weekend averaging a team best 3.78 kps, and hit for an impressive .342 percentage. On Friday, Wallace led the team with 12 kills and a .310 hitting percentage, but her breakout performance came against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Wallace scored a career-high 22 kills against Yale, the third highest total for the Crimson since 2003, to go with a .362 hitting percentage, three blocks and three digs.
Bain turned in another strong all-around performance, averaging 2.00 kps, 7.33 aps and 2.22 dps while hitting at a .417 clip. The freshman logged eight kills, 27 assists and a .533 hitting percentage Friday before turning in her fourth triple-double of the year with 10 kills, 39 assists and 14 digs on Saturday. Bain also became Harvard's record holder for single-season aces over the weekend, surpassing the previous mark of 41 set by Lolita Lopez '98 in 1996.
This is the fourth weekly award Bain has picked up this season from the Ivy League, having once been named Player of the Week and receiving Rookie of the Week honors three times. Harvard has registered a total of six weekly awards as a team, with Wallace's selection as Player of the Week and Grace Weghorst earning Rookie of the Week Sept. 24.
