Crimson Closes out Home Season with 3-0 Win over Brown

Senior Lily Durwood handed out 30 assists in the victory over Brown.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The women’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Brown to close out the 2009 home schedule and improved to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in Ivy League play. The team’s four seniors, Lily Durwood, Alyssa Flesher, Katherine Kocurek and Chelsea Ono Horn, were honored before the game.

Anne Carroll Ingersoll led the team with 10 kills and added four digs to help the Crimson win, 25-22, 25-14, 25-17.

Ono Horn, Kocurek, and sophomore Christine Wu provided much of the defense for the Crimson, as they combined to have 28 of the team’s 40 digs. Durwood handed out 30 assists while Flesher and freshman Taylor Docter combined for 12 kills.

The first set went back and forth, with neither team able to get more than a four-point lead. In the second set, Brown jumped out to an early 9-5 lead, which caused the Crimson to take a timeout. After the break, Harvard won 20 of the last 25 points to win the set 25-14.  The third set was much like the first, with both teams battling to get points. Harvard used a kill by Ingersoll to pull away from the Bears and win 25-17.

Harvard closes out the season with a road trip to Penn Nov. 13 and Princeton Nov. 14.
