Norton and Tachibana Fall At Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Harvard's top doubles team of Kristin Norton and Hideko Tachibana was eliminated in the qualifying round of the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships Wednesday. The duo fell to the tournament's sixth seed, Duke's Mary Clayton and Marianne Jodoin,
Tachibana and Norton could not recreate last year's run to the round of 16, which included an upset of the No. 12-ranked doubles team from Florida. Instead, the pair kept it close before ultimately falling, 8-4, to the Blue Devils' top tandem. The loss drops the pairing to 2-2 this fall after they went 2-1 in the A Flight of the Columbia Invitational in Sept.
While the only two entrants from Harvard have been eliminated, the rest of the field will continue play until Friday for to try and earn automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in Flushing, N.Y.
Now, Harvard will return to action Friday at the William and Mary Fall Tournament before heading to the Fall ITA Regionals in West Point, N.Y. Oct. 19.
