CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kristin Norton won the 'A' flight singles title and joined Hideko Tachibana to take home the 'A' flight doubles championship at the Harvard Fall Classic Sept. 18.
Norton defeated Harvard teammate Camille Jania in the singles final to claim the 'A' flight win. The Port Washington, N.Y. native won tight matches against opponents from Massachusetts and Boston University Friday before advancing to the final by default (injury) on Saturday. Norton downed Jania, a fellow Harvard junior, 6-3, 6-1, in the tournament's championship match.
The powerful duo of Norton and Tachibana rolled to the 'A' flight doubles championship, 8-3, over Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz of Massachusetts. After a bye in the first round, the partners combined to outscore opponents, 24-9, in three matches.
Tachibana and Norton, who referred to the Fall Classic as "a great tune-up," will compete in the main draw at the prestigious Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Oct. 1-9.
