Harvard Women's Tennis Faces Cornell in First Round of ECAC Indoor Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 55 Harvard women's tennis team will take on Cornell in the first round of the 2011 ECAC Division I Women's Indoor Championships Friday. The match, set to start at 8 a.m., is one of four first-round matches Friday.
Eight teams are set to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships this weekend, hosted by Princeton. The Harvard-Cornell match will kick things off Friday, followed by the No. 40 Yale against Columbia at 11:30 a.m. The winners of those matches will square off against each other Saturday at 3 p.m.
The other half of the bracket consists of No. 36 Princeton versus NJIT and No. 71 Dartmouth against Brown. Those matches are scheduled for 3 and 6 p.m. Friday, respectively. The winners will take on one another at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The championship match is slated for 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson enters the tournament with a 2-3 record through the early stages of the season. Harvard is coming off a 6-1 loss to visiting Maryland Feb. 13.
Holly Cao is 4-0 from the No. 1 spot this spring and has played to an 11-2 overall record. She is currently ranked 47th in the ITA singles poll. Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton have each played to 3-2 records this spring.
The Big Red enters the first-round match against Harvard with a 3-0 record in 2011. Cornell opened the season with 7-0 sweeps of St. Bonaventure and St. John's before taking a 6-1 decision from Binghamton Feb. 12.
Sophomore Christine Ordway has held down the No. 1 spot for the Big Red this season, playing to a 3-0 record. Four freshmen, three sophomores and three seniors join Ordway on the Big Red roster.
