Crimson Dominates Harvard Fall Classic
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard women’s
tennis team had yet another strong performance as they swept both
singles flights and captured a first-place finish on the doubles
side at the Harvard Fall Classic this past weekend.
Freshman Hideko Tachibana, the No. 2 seed, won flight A singles
after defeating No. 1 Stefanie Nunic from Boston University 6-4,
6-0. In flight B, freshman Alex Lehman beat Liz Corrao, also from
Boson University, 6-1, 6-2 in the final match.
On the doubles side, the duo of Tachibana and captain Samantha
Rosekrans paired for the victory, beating Brittany Delany and
Katharine Attwell of Boston College in the final with a score of
8-3. Lehman and Samantha Gridley also had a strong doubles
performance, knocking off No. 1 seeded Stefanie Nunic and Francine
Wu of Boston University in the second round before falling to
teammates Tachibana and Rosekrans in the semifinal.
“It was a strong weekend for our young team,” head
coach Traci Green said. “We were still a bit rusty, but our
squad got more match tough everyday. The doubles final was
especially exciting to watch.”
The Crimson have a weekend off before heading to Colorado Springs,
Colo. for the Air Force Invitational Oct. 2-4.
