Women's Tennis Travels to California for Three Matches
CAMBRIDGE, Ma. - The Harvard women's tennis
team travels to California during spring break to take on three
opponents. The Crimson will face No. 9 California March 17,
followed by St. Mary's (Calif.) on March 18 and Fresno State on
March 20.
The Cal Golden Bears boast a 9-3 record entering the match. Jana
Juricova, the No. 2 singles player in the nation, holds a 9-3
record in No. 1 singles, while No. 16 Marina Cossou stands 10-2 in
the No. 2 slot. In doubles action, Juricova and Mari Andersson are
9-2 on the season in No. 1 matches, while Cossou and Kasia Siwosz
hold a 10-1 record at the No. 2 spot.
St. Mary's holds an 8-4 record on the season, with all four losses
coming at the hands of nationally ranked teams. Catherine Isip and
Alexa Poorta have split time at the No. 1 singles spot and have
compiled a 4-7 record. Claire Soper holds a 9-1 singles record this
season, splitting time in the No. 3 and 4 position for the
Gaels.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are still in search of their first win
this season, with an 0-10 record. They will face USC on March 17
before hosting the Crimson on March 20. Anastasia Petukhova is
ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles and defeated five ranked
opponents during tournaments in the fall.
After the trip to California, Harvard will return to Cambridge to
open Ivy League play as it hosts Columbia and Cornell April 2 and 3
at the Murr Center Tennis Courts.
