CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s swimming and diving team handed out team awards at its annual banquet following the 2010-11 season. In all, nine awards were handed out at the event held at the Harvard Club of Boston.
Sophomore Brittany Powell began the evening as the recipient of the Alice McCabe Award, given to a team member whose performances in all areas reminds people of the ideals set forth by coach Alice McCabe. The Spirit Award, presented to the student-athlete whose spirit emulates that of coach Maura Costin Scalise ’80, went to sophomore Caroline Weaver. Senior Christine Kaufmann won the Nancy Sato Award for her strong commitment to the improvement of Harvard swimming, as demonstrated by Nancy Sato.
Senior Ali Slack took home the Dr. Mary Ellen Mangano Award as the squad’s “unsung heroine,” and junior Meghan Leddy was presented with the Coach’s Award. A stellar rookie season earned Sara Li the Outstanding Freshman Award, and the John Walker Award, given to the team’s outstanding diver, was presented to senior Jenny Reese. The final award of the evening, the Sharon Beckman Award, was presented to seniors Katy Hinkle and Katherine Mills, for their outstanding performances and qualities of leadership and promotion of Harvard swimming emulating Sharon Beckman ’80.
The team also named captains for the 2011-12 season, as Kristi Korsberg and Victoria Pratt will lead the Crimson next season.
