No. 1 Women's Squash Downs No. 4 Yale, 6-3; Advances to Howe Cup Finals

PRINCETON, N.J. –The No. 1 Harvard women's squash team powered its way into the finals of the Howe Cup for the eighth consecutive year. The Crimson downed No. 4 Yale, 6-3 and will play for the program's 15th national title tomorrow against No. 2 Trinity at 1 p.m. 

The Crimson swept four of its six wins as Amanda Sobhy and Haley Mendez led the way in the top two positions. Sobhy topped Millie Tomlinson, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, while Mendez downed Kimberley Hay, 11-9, 11-4, 11-6.  

No. 3 Katie Tutrone went down, 1-0 to Shihui Mao before rallying to win the next three to earn a 3-1 victory.  Saumya Karki fought hard in the fourth spot, but was unable to hold on 12-10, 13-15, 11-5, 11-0.

Julianne Chu outlasted Gwendoline Tilghman, 15-13, 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-7, to post a, 3-2, win in the sixth position. No. 5 Michelle Gemmell downed Jenny Scherl, 11-9, 11-6, 11-7, to clinch the match for Harvard as the sophomore won the pivotal fifth match. No. 7 Dileas MacGowan remains undefeated as she knocked off Lillian Fast in three matches, 16-14, 11-6, 11-7.
