No. 1 Women’s Squash Blanks No. 8 Dartmouth to Advance to Howe Cup Semifinals

PRINCETON, N.J. – The top-ranked Harvard women's squash team opened up its title defense of the College Squash Association Howe Cup by shutting out No. 8 Dartmouth, 9-0, Friday afternoon at the Jadwin Gymnasium Squash Center on Princeton's campus.

The Crimson swept eight of the nine matches against the Big Green to advance to tomorrow's semifinal at 2 p.m. Harvard will play the winner of No. 5 Princeton, No. 4 Yale.

Amanda Sobhy and Haley Mendez surrendered just six points each en route to 3-0 victories in the first and second positions, respectively. Sobhy took down Dartmouth's Jacquline Barnes, 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 while Mendez bested Melina Turk, 11-3, 11-3, 11-0

Katie Tutrone downed Nina Scott in the No. 3 spot, 11-3, 11-3, 11-0, while No. 4 Saumya Karki picked up a win over Katie Nimmo, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 and Michelle Gemmell toppled Kensy Balch, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 in the fifth spot matchup.

Julianne Chu powered past Helena Darling, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 in the sixth position and Dileas MacGowan picked up her team-leading 13th win of the season as the rookie downed Lydie McKenzie, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5 in the seventh spot. No. 9 Megan Murray blanked Sarah Caughey, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5.

Isabelle Dowling held off Tori Dewy, 8-11, 13-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 to complete the Crimson's eighth shutout of the year.
