Top Ranked Women's Squash Blanks Dartmouth, 9-0, in Ivy League Opener

Freshman Michelle Gemmell earned her first collegiate win at the No. 3 spot (Gil Talbot). 

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 1 Harvard women's squash began its Ivy League title defense with a shutout victory, 9-0, over No. 8 Dartmouth at the Murr Center Wednesday night.

The Crimson swept six of the nine matches to extend its win streak to 19 and improve to 2-0 for the 36th consecutive year.

2010 individual national champion Laura Gemmell toppled Corey Schafer, 11-4, 11-8, 11-3, at the No. 1 position to earn her first victory of the season, while her younger sister, Michelle Gemmell, made her collegiate debut at the No. 3 spot and cruised to a win, 11-2, 11-7, 11-1, over Melina Turk.

Sophomore Megan Murray outlasted Victoria Dewey in five games in the closest match of the night at the No. 7 spot on the ladder. The pair alternated winning the first four games, including a 14-12 win by Murray in the first game, before Murray dominated the fifth, taking the game 11-3.
