No. 1 Women's Squash Comes from Behind to Beat No. 4 Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard women's squash team, ranked No. 1 in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings, nearly dropped its first match of the season before Haley Mendez broke a 4-4 tie to propel the Crimson past No. 4 Princeton. Harvard moved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League with the win.

Mendez, playing in the No. 4 postion, was down 2-0 in the match before storming back for a dramatic 3-2 victory. The freshman won the final three games 14-12, 11-3 and 11-2.

Freshman Amanda Sobhy won her second match of the weekend and second overall in her college career with a commanding 3-0 victory over Julie Cerullo in the No. 1 spot. Cerullo was ranked No. 3 in the final individual CSA rankings last season.

Harvard also had victories from Laura Gemmell (No. 2), Natasha Kingshott (No. 5) and Sarah Mumanachit (No. 7) in the top nine. All five Crimson winners remained undefeated this season.

Gemmell (5-0) won in sweeping fashion, while Kingshott (6-0) and Mumanachit (7-0) dropped one game before rolling to 3-1 victories.

The undefeated Crimson will be back in action Jan. 21 at No. 5 Trinity.
