CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The top-ranked Harvard women's squash team welcomed No. 10 Brown to the Barnaby Courts on Friday in the season opener for both schools. The Crimson sent the Bears home in merciful fashion, winning by a score of 9-0.

Using a five court system in which the even spots hit the courts first, Harvard lost only one game in the whole match, while winning 27 in route to the sweep. Laura Gemmell, the 2010 CSA Individual National Champion, was extremely dominant in victory, allowing Sarah Crosky to score only nine points the entire match, including an 11-0 first set.

Playing in the No. 3 spot, captain Alisha Mashruwala replicated Gemmell's effort, holding Sarah Domenick to only nine points in their match. No. 5 Natasha Kingshott and No. 6 June Tiong allowed even fewer points in their matches, giving up only six points, each sweeping in three games.

Cece Cortes and Vidya Rajan, No. 7 and 8, respectively, also swept in three games, while only allowing a total of 13 points in their matches.

The Crimson will be in action on Sunday morning as it hosts No. 6 Stanford at 10 a.m., and again in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m., against No. 9 Williams.

Prior to the match, Laura Gemmell and the 2009-10 Harvard women's squash team were honored with the revealing of the Ivy League Championship and CSA National Championship banners.
