No. 1 Women's Squash Wins Battle of Unbeatens, Topples No. 2 Trinity, 7-2

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The top-ranked Harvard women's
squash team remained unbeaten on the season by downing No. 2
Trinity, 7-2, Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the
Crimson improves its record to 5-0 on the season, while the Bantams
fall to 9-1.
With the squads using a three-court system, the Crimson jumped out
to a 5-1 lead and the match was never in doubt. At the No. 1
position, Laura Gemmell earned a 3-0 win over Pamela Hathaway,
topping her opponent in three straight games, 11-6, 11-6,
11-7. In the closest match of the day, Harvard's Nirasha
Guruge lost the first two games to Nayelly Hernandez Perez, 11-6
and 11-7, but took the next two games in overtime, 12-10 and
12-10. In the fifth and decisive game, Guruge held on for a
11-6 showing to win the match.
At the No. 5 spot, Natasha Kingshott rebounded from losing her
first game to Robyn Hodgson, 11-8, to reel off three straight wins,
11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Katherine O'Donnell took down JoAnn Jee in
three straight games, 13-11, 11-1, 1-6 at the No. 6 position, while
fellow co-captain Johanna Snyder defeated Alicia Rodriguez Acosta,
12-10, 11-4, 12-10.
The Crimson also earned wins at No. 8-9, as Sarah Mumanachit
recorded a 3-1 win at the No. 8 spot against Emily Paton (9-11,
11-8, 11-9, 11-9), and Cece Cortes outlasted Robyn Williams at the
No. 9 position, 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-6).
Harvard will return to the Barnaby Courts to host No. 6 Stanford
Sunday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m.
