    I hung up the phone with the Harvard women’s soccer coach, Ray Leone, choked back my tears of joy, stepped out of my bedroom, and told my Dad: “I think I’m going to Harvard.” My dad, a man who I had never seen cry, wasn’t quite as successful at holding back his tears. Months later, when I received my official acceptance into Harvard, I could finally stop holding my breath. I was granted the opportunity of a lifetime – the chance that so many kids dream about, and I was lucky enough to get that chance.

  • Sophie Legros ’12 to Speak at Women’s World Cup

    Former Harvard women’s soccer player Sophie Legros ’12 will speak at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada. The Brussels native will be presenting the Coaches Across Countinents’ ASK for Choice program as part of the Girls Power in Play Symposium taking place in Ottawa June 18-19.

    Team meeting. Junior year. When asked to reflect on my time as a student-athlete at Harvard, my mind immediately went there. That particular day our coach, Ray Leone, switched up his traditional motivational appeals to something he thought could speak to the “Harvard” in all of us. Instead of quoting a famous athlete or showing an inspirational video montage, he cited research by Angela Duckworth, a MacArthur Genius Grant winner and psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania. She had a theory for the key to success.
  • Harvard Varsity Club Celebrates the Class of 2015 at Annual Senior Letterwinners' Dinner

    Harvard Athletics and the Harvard Varsity Club celebrated the Class of 2015 Wednesday night at the annual Senior Letterwinners’ Dinner, held on the Murr Center Indoor Tennis Courts. A record crowd of more than 900 guests was in attendance to honor both the athletic and academic accomplishments of this year’s graduating student-athletes.
  • Purce, USA Head to U-23 Four Nations Tournament

    Harvard’s Margaret Purce has been named to the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team roster that will travel to Norway this week to compete in the Four Nations Tournament (May 27-31). Purce and the American’s will take on the likes of England, Sweden and Norway, the host country.

    The Harvard women's soccer team recently held its annual banquet, as the squad celebrated the 2014 season. The Crimson posted its eighth straight winning season, going 11-5-2 overall, and its second consecutive Ivy League championship, while owning a 5-1-1 conference mark.

    Two Harvard women’s soccer players are gaining more international experience this year, as sophomore Margaret Purce (United States) and junior Alika Keene (Jamaica) have been invited to National Team camps this spring.
  • Women’s Soccer Spring Clinic Open for Registration

    Registration is open for the Harvard University women's soccer spring clinic held on April 18, 2015 at the Harvard bubble. A one-day event, the clinic is open to all girls in grades 8-12 and will run on a first come, first served basis.
  • Washburn, Rotatori Named 2015 Women's Soccer Captains

    Rising senior Haley Washburn and rising junior Carly Rotatori have been named co-captains for the 2015 Harvard women's soccer season, head coach Ray Leone announced. The pair was selected after a vote by their teammates.
  • Women's Soccer Players Participate in Coaches Across Continents

    Harvard women's soccer players Marie Margolius and Marissa Segala have given their time to work with Coaches Across Continents this year, working with coaches and children in Mexico and Haiti. Coaches Across Continents is a global leader in the sport for social impact movement.

    Three members of the Harvard women's soccer team earned All-New England honors, as announced Dec. 12 by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA).
  • Purce, Casscells-Hamby Garner NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region Honors

    Two members of the Harvard women's soccer team have earned NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region honors, the NSCAA announced on Dec. 3. Sophomore Margaret Purce and senior co-captain Meg Casscells-Hamby were both named to Division I Women's All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams.

  • Women's Soccer's Season Comes to a Close Versus No. 1 UCLA
    November 21, 2014
    The Harvard women’s soccer team – tasked with facing the No. 1 team and defending national champion in the second round of the NCAA Tournament – gave its all but fell to UCLA at Drake Stadium, 7-0. The Crimson (11-5-2) finishes its successful season, while the Bruins (20-0-2) continue on to the third round versus Pepperdine Sunday.
  • Women's Soccer Treks to No. 1 UCLA For NCAA Second Round

    Following its thorough 6-0 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday, the Harvard women’s soccer team is geared up to face the No. 1 team in the nation in the NCAA Tournament second round this weekend. The Ivy League champion Crimson (11-4-1, 5-1-1) has the test of facing unbeaten, defending national champion UCLA (19-0-2, 10-0-1) in Los Angeles. The two clubs will kick off at 8 p.m. local time, 11 p.m. on the east coast. This is the first meeting between the two programs.
  • Women's Soccer Routs CCSU, 6-0, Advances in NCAA Tournament
    November 15, 2014
    For the first time since 2001, the Harvard women’s soccer team will play in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after the Crimson defeated Central Connecticut State, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium.
