NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Winners of five-straight matches, Harvard women's soccer (5-3-1) downed Central Connecticut State University, 2-0, Sunday night at CCSU Soccer Field. Sophomore forward Emily Mosbacher registered her first goal of the season to give the Crimson the win.
This marks the longest win streak for the Crimson since Oct.11-Nov. 5 (five games) of 2011.
Harvard outshot the Blue Devils (2-7-0) by a 15-11 margin, including 6-2 in the first stanza. Freshman goalkeeper Lizzie Durack played the full 90 minutes, grabbing four saves.
Harvard struck first on a corner kick opportunity in the eighth minute. Senior captain Peyton Johnson lofted the ball into the box, where Mosbacher headed a shot into the top left corner of the net.
Freshman forward Midge Purce escaped on a breakaway in the 61st minute to give the Crimson a 2-0 advantage. The rookie notched her fifth goal of the season, slipping two defenders and placing the ball in the top left corner.
Harvard heads to rival Yale on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
