Kanten Takes Home Ivy Co-Rookie of the Week Honors

Bethany Kanten has made 31 saves and owns a 1.05 goals-against average on the season (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman goalkeeper Bethany Kanten of the Harvard women’s soccer team has been tabbed the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Kanten shares the honor with Yale freshman goalie Elise Wilcox.

Kanten, a native of Park City, Utah, helped the Crimson improve to 9-4-1 and 3-0-1 in the Ivy League by posting wins over Siena, 2-0, and Brown, 2-1, last week. Kanten, who was also tabbed Ivy Rookie of the Week Sept. 26, earned the shutout against the Saints Tuesday, and then recorded a career-high nine saves, including seven in the second half alone, in the key Ancient Eight win over the Bears.

Harvard sits in first place in the Ivy League with 10 points, just ahead of Yale (nine points) and Penn (nine points). The Crimson will host Princeton (4-8-1, 1-3 Ivy) under the lights at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m.
