CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard seniors Lauren Mann
and Lizzy Nichols have been selected for the annual NEWISA Senior
Bowl, which will be played Saturday, Dec. 6 in Nashua, N.H. The
game is scheduled to begin at noon.
A co-captain of the Crimson this fall, Nichols, a finalist for the
Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, was honored on the All-Ivy League
team for the fourth time, earning a nod to the second team. A
native of Princeton, N.J., Nichols, a defender, was tabbed to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team and scored two
goals this season. One of Nichols’s tallies counted for the
game winner in Harvard’s 3-2 win over Penn Sept. 26.
Mann, who concluded her career ranked third in program history with
290 saves, garnered All-Ivy League status for the fourth time,
earning a spot on the second team this year. Mann, who hails from
Encinitas, Calif., posted a 9-7-1 overall record, while owning a
1.34 goals-against average and stopping 69 of 92 shots faced for a
save percentage of .750. She recorded three shutouts this year
against New Hampshire Sept. 8, Holy Cross Sept. 29 and Brown Oct.
17. In the NCAA tournament, Mann stopped 10 shots in a first-round
game against No. 2 seed Boston College Nov. 13.
Harvard, which won its second straight Ivy League title and made
its second trip to the NCAA tournament in as many years, concluded
the 2009 season with a 9-7-1 overall record, going 6-1 in the Ivy
League.
