Wrestling Adds Seven Freshmen for 2017-18 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jay Weiss, The David G. Bunning '88 Head Coach of Harvard Wrestling, welcomes seven incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2017-18 season: Brock Wilson, Cliffton Wang, Cole Bateman, Evan Callahan, Lukus Stricker, Richard Martinez, Trevor Tarsi.

"This is a great group joining us in the fall at some key weights," said Weiss. "Each one is going to add to our culture and make us stronger.  We are very excited for them to join our wrestling family."

The seven newcomers hail from five different states across the country. The class of 2021 includes: 

Cole Bateman | 184 | Orland Park, Ill. | Carl Sandberg
Three-time Team Illinois member … Made the All-Conference team three times … Two-time State qualifier … Two-time Fargo national qualifier … Illinois Dual Team national champion three times … Senior record 48-7 … National Honor Society member … Illinois State Scholar … AP Scholar … Father played football at Augustana College and is a three-time National Champion … Two cousins wrestled at the Division I level (Wisconsin and Illinois).

Evan Callahan | Heavyweight | Bethlehem, Pa. | Freedom
Earned four varsity letters in wrestling, three in baseball and one in football … Two-time District 11 champion … Northeast Regional champion … Fourth-place finish at the PIAA Wrestling Tournament … Freedom EPC Scholar-Athlete … Class President in 2014 and 2015 … Captain of the debate team … Brother is a linebacker at Amherst.
