CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Capping its home slate and Ivy League schedule on Friday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, Harvard wrestling fell to Brown, 23-12. Prior to the match, the Crimson celebrated its dedicated class of six seniors: Henry Cousins, Zach Dinan, Nicholas Gajdzik, Colby Knight, Jeffrey Ott and Colton Peppelman.
Harvard tallied four wins on the day, each by decision. Three underclassmen picked up wins on the day, sophomore Samuel Goldman (133) and freshmen A.J. Jaffe (141) and Hunter Ladnier (149), along with senior Josef Johnson (174), who recorded his team-high 25th win of the campaign.
Brown jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but three-straight victories by the Crimson pushed the score in Harvard's favor, 9-5. Goldman picked up a 6-4 win over Jimmy Pawelski to put Harvard on the board, and Jaffe followed up with a victory by decision over Zeke Salvo, 10-5. Ladnier gave the Crimson the lead after triumphing over Travis Vasquez, 6-2.
The Bears regained the lead after wins at 157 and 165 pounds, but Johnson responded with a decisive 3-1 victory over Andrew LaBrie with three bouts to go. Down two points, Harvard dropped a trio of tight matches to close the day, with Brown on top 23-12.
