Fox will join Preston at the 2014 NCAA Championships (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The NCAA Wrestling Committee released the final brackets for the 2014 NCAA Championships on Wednesday, with junior co-captain James Fox among the 45 at-large qualifiers for the tournament.
Fox will be joined at Nationals by sophomore Todd Preston, who secured his spot by winning the EIWA title at 141 lbs. This will mark the 19th straight year that Harvard has sent at least one wrestler to NCAA's.
Preston has been seeded 10th after claiming Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the EIWA Championships. Preston will enter the tournament with a 23-8 overall record, having won 10 straight matches and 14 of his last 15. The Hampton, N.J., native, who was named to the All-Ivy League second team, has defeated three nationally ranked opponents this season including two who were ranked in the top 10 at the time.
Preston will be making his first appearance at Nationals after competing just 13 times a year ago while battling injuries. He will face Daniel Neff (31-8) of Lock Haven in the first round.
Fox picked up one of 45 at-large bids to the tournament to earn his third consecutive trip to NCAA's. He was also an at-large qualifier in 2012 as a freshman, and placed second at the EIWA Championships last year to punch his ticket. The native of Plainfield, N.J., was bounced from last weekend's Eastern's early despite being seeded seventh at 197 lbs., but will carry a 15-9 record with him having won nine of his last 11 bouts.
Fox's first-round matchup will be with eighth-seeded Phillip Wellington (33-3) of Ohio.
The 2014 NCAA Championships will commence Thursday, March 20 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. To view the complete brackets, click here.
