Wrestling Goes 1-2 at Boston Duals

Preston remains unbeaten in dual meets (Robert Preston).

BOSTON – Sophomore Todd Preston was undefeated on the day as the Harvard wrestling team took to the mat three times Sunday at the Boston Duals.

The Crimson went 1-2 on the day, sandwiching a win over Binghamton, 22-15, around losses to American, 25-12, and Army, 25-13.

Preston went a perfect 3-0 at 149 lbs., recording decisions over American's Tom Page, 5-0, Binghamton's Nick Tighe, 4-3, and Army's Tyler Rauenzahn, 5-3. His victory versus the Bearcats put the Crimson on top, 7-6, and was the second of six straight victories as Harvard never looked back in the match Preston is now 13-7 overall on the year and 4-0 in dual meets.

Jeffrey Ott and Paul Liguori picked up a pair of wins en route to 2-1 records for the day. Ott's victories both came with bonus points, as the 125-pounder registered major decisions over Binghamton's Mike Sardo, 10-0, and Army's Justin Seim, 13-1. Liguori, meanwhile, wrestled up a weight class at 165 lbs. and pinned Harvard's Marcos Peralta, 2:29, before defeating Binghamton's Vincent Grella, 4-0.

Harvard pulled within striking distance of American following Liguori's fall, 15-9, but Cameron Croy's 4-2 decision over Jason Grimes was the only victory the Crimson was able to pick up over the final four weights. Harvard rebounded against Binghamton, winning six straight bouts to pull away for the victory. Against Army, the Crimson held an early 7-6 lead thanks to the wins by Ott and Preston before five straight victories pushed the Black Knights ahead.

Harvard returns to the road next weekend as it travels to Ithaca, N.Y., to face Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 18.
