An up-and-down season ended with a pair of wins as the Harvard women’s lacrosse team competed against seven ranked teams during the 2009 season. The Crimson finished the campaign with a 6-10 overall record, including 2-5 in the Ivy League for a sixth-place finish in the Ancient Eight.

Sophomore Jess Halpern scored four goals and added an assist as the Harvard women’s lacrosse team turned a one-point halftime lead into a 11-7 victory over No. 20 Cornell Saturday afternoon. The Crimson defense and goalie Katherine Martino shut out the Big Red defense in the second half, holding them without a goal.

The Harvard women’s lacrosse team scored three goals in the final three minutes of play, but a seven-goal cushion in the first half by the Big Green allowed No. 13 Dartmouth to maintain its lead and earn a 13-6 win Wednesday afternoon.

Second Half Rally Closes the Gap Against No. 9 Virginia
Sophomore Jess Halpern scored four of Harvard’s six goals in the second half to close the gap against No. 9 Virginia, but the Cavaliers used a first half cushion to prevail, 13-9, Sunday afternoon at Harvard Stadium.
