Weis Tabbed Co-Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.Kelly Weis of the Harvard women's lacrosse team was named the Co-Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after leading Harvard to a 10-4 win over Brown, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

The Garden City, N.Y., native stopped seven shots and collected a team-high four ground balls as the Crimson powered past Brown to move into a tie with Princeton for second place in the Ivy League standings.

Weis has started all 10 games in net for the Crimson, turning in a 9.54 goals against average and.492 save percentage, good for first in the Ivy League. The sophomore has recorded double-digital saves in three of the team's 10 contests and has totaled a league-high 90 saves on the season.

Weis shares this week's defensive player of the week award with Penn's goalie Lucy Ferguson. It marks the second honor for Weis this season and third overall for the Crimson.

Weis and Harvard are back in action Wednesday as the Crimson travel to Worcester, Mass., to take on Holy Cross. The first draw is slated for 4:30 p.m.
