The Harvard women’s lacrosse team will face four teams that competed at the NCAA Tournament last year and five teams that finished in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. The Crimson will play eight games on the road and six at home, including five in Harvard Stadium.
Harvard plays its first two contests of the 2011 season on the road, starting with a Feb. 26 game at Stanford. The Cardinal (15-5) finished the year ranked 16th in the nation and competed in the NCAA Tournament, falling to James Madison in the first round, 9-6. The Crimson drives into Ivy League action the following Saturday travelling to Ithaca to face Cornell.
The Crimson hosts Penn March 12 in its home opener. The Quakers have won the last three Ivy League titles and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last season. Penn finished the season ranked sixth in the nation.
Harvard makes the short journey to Boston College on St. Patrick’s Day for a night game against the Eagles. The Crimson returns home for four straight games in Cambridge. Harvard hosts Johns Hopkins (March 20), Yale (March 26), New Hampshire (April 1) and Virginia (April 3). Virginia was an NCAA quarterfinal team last year and finished the season ranked fourth in the nation.
The Crimson hits the road for contests at Brown (April 8), Holy Cross (April 13), Princeton (April 16) and Boston University (April 20). Harvard hosts Columbia April 23 on Senior Day for its final regular season home game of the season.
The top four teams in the Ivy League will play in the Ivy League tournament May 6 and 8 at the Ivy League champion’s home site. The winner of the Ivy League tournament will earn the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
