Nine Harvard players have represented either Canada or the United
States at the Olympics since women's hockey was introduced at the
18th Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
Angela Ruggiero '02-04, Sandra Whyte '92 and A.J. Mleczko '97-99
were members of the U.S. team that captured Gold at the 1998
Olympics. Canadian Jennifer Botterill '02-03 won a silver medal the
same year and added a gold medal in 2002. Helping her win Gold in
Salt Lake City was Tammy Shewchuk '00-01. Botterill and Shewchuk
earned their medals by defeating a Team USA squad that featured
Ruggiero, Mleczko and Julie Chu '06-07.
Most recently, Botterill and Sarah Vaillancourt '08-09 earned
Gold with Team Canada in the Torino Games of 2006. Ruggiero and Chu
were joined on the 2006 U.S. squad by Jamie Hagerman '03 and
Caitlin Cahow '07-08. Team USA won the bronze medal at the 2006
games.
