CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three Harvard women's hockey skaters recently earned invitations to the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, USA Hockey announced this week. Juniors Miye D'Oench and Michelle Picard, along with incoming freshman Lexie Laing, are three of 69 players to earn a trip to Lake Placid, New York, on Aug. 12-16 for the event.

The Festival will help shape the 22-player rosters for a pair of series with Canada Aug. 21-24 in Calgary, involving the under-18 and under-22 teams.

Picard is one of four members of the silver medal-winning 2014 U.S. Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team to earn an invitation to the Festival, and will participate for the fifth time as a member of Team USA. A Taunton, Massachusetts, native, Picard has seen international time with the U.S. in two IIHF Women's World Championships (2012, 2013) and four Four Nations Cups (2011-13). The last time she donned the Crimson in 2012-13, Picard led Harvard with a +32 rating, adding four goals and 13 assists for 17 points as a lock-down defender.

D'Oench, the Crimson's returning scorer from a year ago – reeling off 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points – has experience with Team USA as well. The New York, New York, native was a member of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team, earning a silver medal with the team at the 2012 World Championships. She also was a four-year participant at USA Hockey National Development Camp and named to All-Star team in 2009 and 2011.

Newcomer Lexie Laing also is an accomplished international player. A forward on the U-18 Women's National Team in 2013 and 2014, Laing has a pair of silver medals with the squad.  She also has participated in both the USA Four Nations and Winter Camps, and is a four-time USA Hockey Development Camp participant.

The Harvard trio and the defending Ivy League champions look to make it back to the NCAA tournament for the third year in a row in 2014-15. After an exhibition with McGill University on Oct. 24, the Crimson's slate officially gets underway when RPI and Union pay visits to Bright-Landry on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
