CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jillian Dempsey of the Harvard women's ice hockey team was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, the league announced Tuesday. The award is the ninth ECAC honor of Dempsey's career, including her second player of the month nod.
The senior co-captain led Harvard to a 6-1-0 record during the month of November, two wins over ranked opponents and a No. 5 ranking for the Crimson in the polls. Dempsey continued her career-high 23 game point streak with at least one point in all seven contests during the month and six multi-point outings. She totaled six goals, eight assists and 14 points to lead the Crimson in each category. Her consistent play in November has Dempsey ranked among the nation's best in points per game (No. 4, 2.22), goals per game (No. 3, 1.00) and assists per game (No. 5, 1.22).
Dempsey, who is tops in the league in points per game (2.43) and goals per game (1.12) during ECAC play, was selected as ECAC Hockey Player of the Week Nov. 27 after being named the No. 1 star in Harvard's 3-1 upset of No. 2 Cornell Nov. 24. The Winthrop, Mass., native scored in the first period to give Harvard a 1-0 advantage, before dishing to Kalley Armstrong on a breakaway for the game-winner in the third. The win was the Crimson's first over the Big Red in its last eight tries. She also netted a game-winning goal against Yale Nov. 3 and had a three-point showing against Dartmouth Nov. 30 in winning efforts for the Crimson.
Previously, Dempsey has earned five player of the week distinctions, two rookie of the week honors and the ECAC Player of the Month award last February.
No. 5 Harvard hosts Providence Friday and travels to New Hampshire Saturday.
