2016-17 Women's Fencing Schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's fencing is set to travel to Queens, New York to open its 2017 slate at the St. John's Invitational Jan. 21. The Crimson will see competitors from Columbia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and the host Red Storm.  

Last Time Out
The Harvard women's fencing team shattered Wellesley in a dual meet on Wednesday evening at the Malkin Athletic Center, with the final tally reading 25-2.
 
The women's fencing team opened its 2016-17 campaign at the Tradition Tournament at Sacred Heart on Dec.4. The team recorded a 3-2 overall mark, comprising of a 24-3 win over Vassar, a 23-4 victory against Sacred Heart and a 22-5 triumph over NYU.

Scouting the Field
Harvard tallied a 1-3-1 mark at the 2015 St. John's Invitational, earning a victory over Penn State (14-13) and a draw with host St. John's (13-13) to go 1-3-1 at the Invitational.  
 
Last Season
Harvard went 14-1 during the 2015-16 season, finishing seventh as a team at the NCAA Championships. The reigning national champion in sabre, senior Adrienne Jarocki earned first team All-America honors and a first-place overall finish going a combined 19-4 at the NCAA tournament and a tournament-best plus-35 touch differiental. Jarocki is joined by sophomore Shawn Wallace, who accumulated All-America honorable mention distinction with a 13-10 record at the NCAA Tournament.
 
Leading the Way
Head coach Peter Brand enters his 19th season at the helm for the Crimson, which has posted a winning record in each of the last 15 seasons under his watch. Harvard has won eight Ivy League Championships during his tenure, while also winning the 2006 National Championship. Brand owns a 232-70 record on the women's side and has coached a combined 47 All-Americans at Harvard.
 
Captaining the Ship
Seniors Adrienne Jarocki and Liana Yamin have been chosen by their teammates as the Harvard women's fencing captains for the 2016-17 season. The duo of Jarocki and Yamin will serve as the third pair of two-time captains that has been elected by their teammates in Harvard women's fencing history.

The Ivy League Digital Network returns for a fourth season as the home for all live streaming and on-demand video content for each of the conference's eight institutions. Broadcast in full HD and featuring a live score bug and play-by-play and color commentary, the Ivy League Digital Network provides fans with unprecedented access to the Ancient Eight.
 
What's Next?
The women will return home to host NYU and Tufts on Feb. 4 at 1pm and 3:30 pm, respectively. The bouts will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
