van Loon Competes at Dijon Junior World Cup

DIJON, France – Eppeist Nina van Loon of the No. 7 Harvard women's fencing team competed at the Dijon Junior World Cup, Sunday, Jan. 5 and finished 27th overall.

van Loon, who competed in her second international competition this year, notched a 3-3 mark and plus-3 indicator in pool action to rank 40th headed into the direct elimination tables and draw a bye in the round of 128. In her opening bout, she met the 25th-seeded Giorgia Pometti. The Boulder, Colo., native upset the Italian, 15-8, to advance to the table of 32 where she was elimination from the competition by Carmel Tulen (NED), who was seeded eighth, 15-7. Out of 105 entrants, van Loon claimed 27th.

The sophomore and the Crimson return to the strip on Sunday, Jan. 26 in at the St. John's Invitational in Queens, N.Y.
