CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second-straight year, Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew won the Beanpot Saturday morning on the Charles River. The varsity and second varsity eights both won by open water in excellent racing conditions.
With a slight quartering tailwind, the Black and White 1V led the 2000m race from start to finish, besting Boston University and MIT with a time of 6:46.7. BU crossed the finish line second (6:54.7) and MIT followed (7:15.4).
Radcliffe's second varsity eight also won in convincing fashion, starting strong and posting a time of 7:03.5. The Terriers stopped the clock 6.5 seconds later (7:10.0) for a second-place showing. MIT finished in 7:33.0 to rank third.
BU barely edged Radcliffe in the 3V race, finishing a half-length ahead of the Black and White. In a two-boat event, the Terriers finished in 7:19.6, as the Black and White crossed in 7:20.7.
MIT earned the win in the N4+ race by a half-length. The Engineers put up a time of 8:32.1, edging Radcliffe (8:33.5) by 1.4 seconds.
Radcliffe will be back on the Charles for the Class of 2004 Cup Saturday, April 5 vs. Georgetown.
