PRINCETON, N.J.-The Radcliffe
lightweight varsity eight placed 21st among 55 boats-including 50
heavyweight entries-at the Princeton Chase, held Sunday on Lake
Carnegie.
The Black and White competed in the three-mile women's varsity
eight race, an openweight event that included many of the region's
top heavyweight squads. Radcliffe finished third among lightweight
entries in 16:06.052, one spot and less than four seconds behind
Georgetown (16:03.419). Princeton was the top lightweight finisher,
crossing 12th in 15:51.839.
The Yale heavyweights won the race in 14:46.323 on a beautiful
day with clear, sunny skies and a slight headwind. The only other
lightweight competitors were the second varsities from Georgetown
and Princeton, which finished 44th and 49th, respectively. Both of
those boats were more than a minute behind Radcliffe.
Two head races remain on the Black and White's fall schedule.
The novices compete in the Green Monster regatta Nov. 7 at
Dartmouth and will be joined by the varsity at the Foot of the
Charles Nov. 14 at home.
