Davies, Lofgren Claim Olympic Gold With Team USA Women’s Eight

WINDSOR, England -- Caryn Davies '05 and Esther Lofgren '08-09 helped the United States women's eight boat win its second straight gold medal, winning the Olympics with a time of 6:10.59 Thursday.

The U.S. topped Canada (6:12.06) and the Netherlands (6:13.12) in the 2,000-meter course on Dorney Lake, located 25 miles west of London. The victory also extends the U.S. women's eight boat win streak to six years.

Davies, who serves as a vice president of the U.S. Olympians Association, also won the gold medal in 2008 games in Beijing, as well as a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, making her the most successful female Harvard rower in Olympic history.

Thursday's victory marks for first Olympic medal in Lofgren's career.
