Women's Basketball Announces Class of 2021

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Harvard women's basketball will welcome five student-athletes from the Class of 2021 to the program this fall, head coach Kathy Delaney-Smith announced today. The class, which spans four states and two countries (USA, Sweden), includes three forwards, one guard/forward, and one guard. Harvard returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season's squad that went 21-9, the program's 12th 20-win season. The Crimson earned a seventh WNIT bid in program history, advancing to the second round with a 69-56 win over New Hampshire on March 17.

Before Harvard: Four-year starter and senior captain at Bishop Blanchet HS…Associated Press Washington State Player of the Year (2017)…First Team All-State Tournament Team selection (2014, 2015, 2017)…Seattle Times "Star Times" Team (2016, 2017)…Led team to three state tournament appearances and top-three finishes, and two Metro League titles (2016, 2017)…National Honor Society…Played AAU basketball with the Northwest Blazers...Also lettered in track and field.

Matilda Salen, Freshman, Guard, 5-9, Sweden / Alvik Basket
Before Harvard: Played 21 games for Alvik Basket (Bromma, Sweden) in 2016-17...Played for Sweden U16, U17, and U18 National Teams…Won title with Sweden at 2016 U18 European Championships…Key contributor with Sweden at 2014 U16 European Championships, helping team to runner-up finish.

Delaney-Smith on Salen: "Matilda comes to us with a strong international background and her drive and work ethic speak for themselves. Matilda's ability to play multiple guard positions only adds to her versatility and ability to contribute to our program."

Before Harvard: Two-year starter and senior captain at Ursuline Academy (Ohio)…Ohio District 16 Player of the Year (2016)…All-State Runner Up (2016)…Greater Girls Catholic League (GGCL) Player of the Year (2016)…GGCL First Team selection (2015-17)…Led GGCL in field goal percentage and blocks (2016)..Led Ursuline Academy to district runner-up finish (2016, 2017)…National Honor Society …Played AAU basketball for the Cincy Swish.
