Clark, Fagbenle Sweep Ivy League Weekly Awards

Clark and Fagbenle led the Crimson to a 2-0 week to close out non-conference play (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's basketball team has swept the Ivy League weekly awards for the third time in four weeks as Christine Clark has been named player of the week with Temi Fagbenle picking up rookie of the week honors.

Harvard has now won 11 of the conference's 18 weekly awards this season and has earned at least one award in each week it has competed. Fagbenle leads the squad with two player of the week and five rookie of the week nods while Clark and senior Victoria Lippert have each been named player of the week twice.

Clark picked up her second honor of the season after averaging 20.0 ppg and shooting 51.7 percent from the floor in a pair of victories for the Crimson. The junior became the 18th member of Harvard's 1,000-point club on Wednesday against UMass as she scored 19 points to go along with four assists and two steals. She then turned in her third 20-point performance of the season with 21 points at Rhode Island, including nine of the team's final 16 points to secure the victory. Clark shot 8-of-14 from the floor against the Rams and added six rebounds.

This is Clark's eighth career weekly award from the Ancient Eight and is the fifth time she has been named player of the week. She shares the honor this week with Princeton's Niveen Rasheed who scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Tigers' win over Drexel on Monday.

Fagbenle averaged 10.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg for the week while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. The sophomore registered 12 points and six boards against UMass on Wednesday, connecting on 4-of-5 attempts from the floor as well as 4-of-5 attempts from the line. On Sunday she just missed registering her fourth double-double of the year with a nine-point, 10-rebound performance.

Harvard's 11 weekly awards are the most for the program since 2008-09 when it took home 13. Brogan Berry '12 earned one player of the week and six rookie of the week honors that year, while Emma Markley '11 and Emily Tay '09 were each named player of the week three times.

The Crimson is set to open Ivy League play this weekend as it hosts Dartmouth Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.
