Amy Gosztyla enters her third season as the assistant coach for cross country and track and field. Gosztyla works primarily with the men’s and women’s middle distance and distance athletes on the track.
Prior to joining the Harvard staff, Gosztyla was the assistant women’s cross country and track and field coach at her alma mater, the University of New Hampshire during the 2007-2008 season. In cross country, she assisted coaching Catherine Parker to All-American status with a 28th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. This marked the first All-American for the program in nearly15 years. The women’s cross country team also won the ECAC University Championships that season.
On the track while at UNH, Gosztyla was a key part of the team’s indoor and outdoor success while working with the long sprinter and middle distance athletes. During the indoor and outdoor seasons, the Wildcats finished second in the America East Championships and were the New England Outdoor Championships Runner-up. Additional highlights from the year included coaching the America East Conference Indoor 500 meter champion and 400 meter runner-up, as well as coaching the women’s outdoor 4x400m relay team to a new school record.
From February of 2005 to August of 2007, Gosztyla was the assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Stony Brook University. During that time, she assisted in building a nationally recognized women’s cross country program under the direction of Head Coach Andy Ronan. This led to the team qualifying for the NCAA Championships in 2007. Leading up to that success, Ronan and Gosztyla were awarded America East Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year accolades in 2005 and 2006. Additionally, on the track, during Gosztyla’s tenure, Stony Brook had 46 ECAC/ICAAAA qualifying performances, 20 school records broken, and four NCAA regional qualifiers.
As an undergraduate at New Hampshire, Gosztyla was a four-time America East All-Conference selection in cross country, and earned All-Northeast Region accolades as a junior in 1999. She was a six-time America East champion in indoor and outdoor track, and is a former seven event school record holder for UNH, four of them still stand today. In 2002, Gosztyla picked up the most outstanding track performer award at the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was also named the America East Student-Athlete of the Year. She was honored by New Hampshire with the Jim Urqhart Award, given to the Female Student-Athlete of the Year, in 2002.
Gosztyla graduated magna cum laude New Hampshire in May 2001 with a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences before earning her master's degree in exercise science summa cum laude from the same school in May 2004.
