LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the Harvard track and field team punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet hosted by the University of Kentucky - senior Nikki Okwelogu, sophomore Gabby Thomas, and senior Jade Miller.
Okwelogu qualified in the discus throw with her season best mark in the event (182'3"), placing second overall among competitors. That effort was the second best effort in her career, and the best in any collegiate event for Okwelogu. She'll be making her third appearance at the NCAA Outdoor championships and this marks the second time she's qualified in the discus throw.
Thomas also qualified for a trip to Eugene in the 100-meter dash, recording the eighth fastest time of the day (11.44). This marks the second straight year that Thomas will head to the NCAA Outdoor meet and the first time she'll compete in the 100-meter dash at the event.
Thomas earned a spot in tomorrow's 200-meter dash quarterfinal, winning her heat and running the fastest time of the day (22.60).
Senior Jade Miller will make her fourth straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor championships in the 400-meter hurdles after winning her heat with the second fastest time of the day (56.17).
Junior Jay Hebert placed eighth in his heat in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing in 14.67.
Freshman Will Battershill competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing 18th overall with a time of 9:00.25.
