Laine Qualifies for IAAF World Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Former Harvard track and field standout Samyr Laine ’06 earned a spot in the field at the 2011 IAAF Track and Field World Championships Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, Korea. Laine will compete in the triple jump, which begins with the qualification round on the seventh day of the event.

Laine qualified for the world championships thanks to a strong performance at the Central America and Caribbean Championships last weekend. On his 27th birthday, Laine, representing Haiti, posted a mark of 17.09 meters (56’1”) to take the triple jump title. He enters the world championships ranked 34th in the world in the triple jump and is one of only 49 athletes to have eclipsed the 17-meter mark in 2011.
