(David Silverman).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three members of the Harvard
women’s track and field team have earned All-Academic status,
the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday. Two of the three Crimson honorees
have received USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades in previous
years.
Claire Richardson led the group of Harvard recipients, as she was the lone Crimson participant in this year’s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Richardson posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 5,000-meter run, placing 19th with a time of 16:25.80 at the event. Richardson has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades in both cross country and track and field during her collegiate career.
Joining Richardson on the All-Academic list are Carlyle Davis and Jessica Fronk. Davis qualified for the NCAA Regional quarterfinals in the 800 meter run and turned in a season-best time of 2:07.37 at the meet. Fronk captured four javelin titles during the outdoor season and had a season-best mark of 45.79 meters which qualified her for the NCAA Regional meet. Fronk has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors every year she has competed, while Davis was one of two Harvard freshmen to attain an NCAA qualifying mark in the 2009-10 season.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in his/her respective event.
The organization will announce the men’s honorees Thursday, and the team awards will be announced next week.
