Crimson Welcomes Army, Brown and Colgate for Harvard Challenge
Senior Brian Hill helped lead the Crimson men's distance medley relay team to a third place finish its last time out (Harvard Athletic Communications).
The Particulars
The Crimson hosts its first indoor meet of the new year at Gordon Indoor Track in an Ivy League vs. Patriot League setting with Brown, Army and Colgate all in attendance for the Harvard Challenge.
Last Time Out
Harvard opened its 2011 indoor schedule by competing at the Gotham Cup Jan. 14. Adriann Lachance and Sydnie Leroy turned in matching second-place marks in the pole vault for the women with 3.55 meter clearances and the distance medley relay team of Kristina Funahashi, Sana Raoof, Catherine Ressijac and Kailyn Kuzmuk turned in a winning time of 12 minutes, 20.56 seconds, more than 10 seconds ahead of the second place squad.
On the men's side the distance medley relay team of Paul Koullick, Brian Hill, Erik Kraus and James Leakos took third with a time of 10:27.59. Dustin Brode led a quartet of Crimson competitors in the weight throw with a third place mark of 16.37 meters. Hill earned a win for the Crimson in the 800 with a time of 1:53.01 and Darcy Wilson took third in the mile with a mark of 4:10.58.
About Brown
The Bears competed at the Sorlien Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island Jan. 15. The men's squad finished in sixth with 44 points. Freshman Matt Bevil won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:32.48. Sophomore Daniel Smith also brought home a title in the shot put with a strong toss of 53-09.75 (16.40m). On the women's side, senior Brynn Smith won the Bears' only title with a solid 47-08.50 (14.54m) in the shot put.
About Army
The Black Knights attended the first of three installments of the "Saturday Night at The Armory" series on Jan. 15. The men's team captured a second-place finish by tallying 96 points, while the women did not place as a team. Senior Alexis Torre-Santiago captured the 800-meter crown by crossing the line in an IC4A-qualifying mark of 1:53.59. Senior Alfred McDaniel won the long jump with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 7.09 meters and also finished second in a field of 43 in the 60-meter dash. For the women, Freshman Crystal Christian became the first Black Knight of the season to break the eight-second mark in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.96 seconds to finish 14th in a field of 50.
About Colgate
The Raiders have competed in two meets so far this indoor season, with their latest coming Jan. 15 at the "Saturday Night at The Armory" event. The men finished 12 out of 17 teams with 13 points while the Colgate women did not register a team score.
