Harvard Track and Field Teams Recognized for Academic Success
The Harvard men’s and women’s track and field teams
were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCA) Division I All-Academic Teams as announced by
the USTFCCA this week. The Crimson men had the fifth best grade
point average on the men’s side, while the women ranked 16th
for the women’s selections.
The Harvard men were one of six Ivy League teams to be named to the
list, marking the most teams by a conference for the second year in
a row. The Crimson, who were one of 67 programs recognized, posted
a 3.294 GPA. The Crimson women, who were one of 130 programs
recognized, boasted a GPA of 3.417.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative
grade‐point average.
Earlier in the week, the USTFCCA named the 2009 Division I Indoor
and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic team selections. The
Crimson had five women (Becky Christensen ’09, Shannon
Flahive ’09, Jessica Fronk ’11, Claire Richardson
’11 and Brittan Smith ’09) and three men (Daniel
Chenoweth ’11, Chas Gillespie ’10, Justin Grinstead
’10) make the list.
