Track and Field Concludes Competition at Heptagonal Championships

Day 1 Recap

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Harvard track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Heptagonal Championships Sunday evening at Weaver Stadium at Princeton University. Both the men's and women's teams finished in seventh place, as the men's team accumulated 50 points while the women's team ended the meet with 33 points.

Mary Hirst and Dina Emde finished third and fifth in the high jump, respectively, both with heights of 1.67 meters. Ashtynn Baltimore took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 14.66 seconds. In the men's 400 meter run, John Dingus recorded a time of 48.65 seconds, good for third place. Jack Brady, who finished third in the hammer throw yesterday, placed third in the shot put with a distance of 16.41 meters. In the women's 800 meter run, less than one second separated the fourth-sixth place finishers, as Meghan Looney recorded a time of 2:11.62, good for sixth place.

Melissa Bellin took sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.84, and Justin Grinstead defended his title in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.19 seconds. The team of Grinstead, Dingus, Brian Hill and Jeff Homer finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:15.44.

Cornell claimed the both the men's and women's titles. On the men's side, Princeton finished second, Brown placed third, Yale finished fourth and Dartmouth rounded out the top five. In the women's competition, Brown took second place, Coulmbia finishd third, Princeton claimed fourth and Penn placed fifth.

Next weekend, members of the track and field team will return to Princeton, N.J., to compete at the IC4A's and ECAC Championships.
