Harvard Wins Six Events and Posts ECAC/IC4A Qualifying Marks at Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center for the first time this season in the Harvard Invitational. The Crimson posted several event victories and ECAC and IC4A qualifying marks.

The Harvard women posted three wins and had an ECAC qualifier in the 60 meter hurdles. Freshman Ashtynn Baltimore won the 60 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 8.80, while classmate Meghan Ferreira was third with a time of 9.30 seconds. Rookie Olivia Weeks also picked up her first collegiate victory, winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.54 meters.

Junior Dina Emde was second in the high jump and first among collegians with a clearance of 1.65 meters. Rookie Mary Hirst finished in third with a height of 1.60 meters. Syndie Leroy was second in the pole vault after clearing 3.50 meters, while sophomore Stacey Jung took third in the same event with a height of 3.05 meters. Junior co-captain Katrina Drayton clocked in at 8.12 seconds for a fourth-place finish in the 60 meter dash. She was second among collegians. Second-year Christine Reed was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.30 meters Sophomore Shannon Conway was fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.77, while Baltimore came in sixth with a time of 26.96 seconds. Sophomore Magda Roback was third in the 400 meters in a time of 1:00. 97. Rooie Shannon Watt was fifth and classmate Brianne Holland-Stregar was sixth in the weight with throws of 12.48 and 11.87 meters, respectively.

Four Harvard runners placed in the top seven of the 500 meters. Leading the way was freshman Melissa Bellin who was third in a time of 1:18.48. Sophomore Lauren Leon was fourth in 1:19.57, while Kim O’Donnell was sixth and Sana Raoof was seven.

The 4x400 meter relay team won in a time of 4:00.58. Bellin, Jasmine Cho, Conway and Leon comprised the winning foursome.

The Harvard men had three event winners and an IC4A qualifier in the 1,000 meter run. Freshman Jeff Homer won the 500 meters in a time of 1:05.29, while sophomore Jared Squires was second 0.70 seconds later. Senior co-captain Jack Brady won the weight with a heave of 18.31 meters and was third in the shot put with a toss of 15.75. Sophomore Darcy Wilson won the 1,000 meter run with an IC4A qualifying time of 2:29.95.

Freshman Scott Sansovich was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.80. Junior John Fahnenstiel was fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.20 seconds. Freshman Edward Brucker was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 14.96 meters. Newcomer Kenneth Wan Kan was third in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters and third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.29 meters. Senior Graham Ingfinger was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 6.31 meters.

Sophomore Tyler Funk was second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.95 meters, while freshman Aaron Palmer was third with a height of 1.90 meters. Sean Gil was second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.40 meters. Second-year Jonathan Meminger was fourth in the 200 meters, clocking in at 22.93 seconds.

Harvard is pack in action next weekend at Gordon Track when its hosts Brown and UConn Jan. 23 in the Harvard Select Meet.
