Skiing Ends Regular Season at Middlebury Carnival

Freshman William Rhatigan was part of the men's 3X5K FS relay team that earned eighth overall at the Dartmouth Carnival (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– The Harvard skiing team is set to conclude regular season action at the Middlebury Carnival in Middlebury, Vermont Feb. 17-18. The Crimson will compete in its fifth carnival of the year this weekend, recording three previous top-ten finishes on the year.

Last Time Out
Harvard skiing finished action at the Dartmouth Carnival last weekend, competing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center/Dartmouth Skiway in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Crimson earned 10th amongst the 15th-team field.

Top Performers at Dartmouth
Harvard had two relay teams record top-ten finishes at the Dartmouth Carnival. The trio of senior Rachel Hampton and sophomores Hannah Hardenbergh and Nina Armstrong placed seventh overall in the women's 3X5K FS relay, combining for a time of 44:05.4. In the men's 3X5K FS relay, seniors Ian Meyer and Devlin Shea, along with freshman William Rhatigan, turned in an eighth-place finish with a total time of 37:57.4. For the women's alpine team, junior Kelly Steeves was the top performer with a final time of 2:17.29 for 47th overall in the giant slalom.

Middlebury History
Harvard last competed at the Middlebury Carnival on Feb. 13, 2015. The Crimson notched 10th overall out of 16 teams. Seniors Ian Meyer and Devlin Shea finished 43rd and 44th, respectively, in the men's 10K, while Steeves turned in a solid performance in her rookie campaign, ranking 34th in the giant slalom and 41st in the slalom.

Follow the Leaders
Seniors James Stevenson and Kaitlyn Gibson are serving as the captains for the alpine squad this season, while seniors Devlin Shea and Rachel Hampton will lead the nordic team as captains. 

Wealth of Experience
Harvard skiing welcomes nine freshman to the roster this season, with five additions to the alpine team and four newcomers on the nordic side. Sixteen Crimson returned from last year's roster, including 12 upperclassmen.

The Crimson now looks ahead to the NCAA Regional Championships in Rumford, Maine Feb. 24-25.
