Skiing Heads North for UVM Carnival

Freshman Carter Kendig led the Crimson alpine squad with a 36th-place finish in the giant slalom at the UNH Carnival last weekend (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– The Harvard skiing team returns to the slopes Feb. 3-4 for the UVM Carnival in Stowe, Vermont. The Crimson will compete in its third of five carnivals this season.

Last Time Out
The Harvard skiing team wrapped up its second competition of the season at the UNH Carnival last weekend. The Crimson finished 11th out of the 16-team field.

A Year Ago
Harvard competed at the UVM Carnival a year ago as it finished 10th amongst the 16-team field. Senior Rachel Hampton had two top-25 finishes in the 5K and 10K, while senior Ian Meyer registered 44th in the 5K.

Nordic Top Performers
The nordic squad was led by senior Rachel Hampton and sophomore Hannah Hardenbergh with two top-25 finishes in the 5K Classic and 15K FS at the UNH Carnival. Hampton finished 19th in the 5K (15:43.2) and 24th in the 15K, while Hardenbergh garnered an 18th-place finish in the 15K (45:29.8) and ranked 25th in the 5K. Sophomore Nina Armstrong also notched 20th in the 15K (46:07.6).

Senior Devlin Shea led the men's nordic team with a 36th-place finish in the 10K (28:06.2), along with 50th in the 20K with a time of 54:56.4.

Alpine Top Performers
For the alpine squad, junior Kelly Steeves turned in the top time of 2:28.80 for 28th in the giant slalom. Steeves also recorded 32nd in the slalom, finishing just under three seconds off of 25th with a time of 2:14.28. Freshman Carter Kendig led the men in the giant slalom with a final time of 2:23.96 for 36th overall.

Fearless Leaders
Seniors James Stevenson and Kaitlyn Gibson are serving as the captains for the alpine squad this season, while seniors Devlin Shea and Rachel Hampton will lead the nordic team as captains. 

Crimson Experience
Harvard skiing welcomes nine freshman to the roster this season, with five additions to the alpine team and four newcomers on the nordic side. Sixteen Crimson returned from last year's roster, including 12 upperclassmen.

Harvard skiing returns to action on Feb. 10-11 for the Dartmouth Carnival in Hanover, New Hampshire.
