PARK CITY, Utah. – Former Harvard nordic skiing member Akeo Maifeld-Carucci '15 has been named to the FIS U23 World Ski Championships Team for the upcoming FIS U23 World Ski Championships taking place in Rasnov, Romania Feb. 22-28.
"I've really enjoyed following Akeo's growth as an athlete since he graduated last spring," said Chris City, The Paul J. Finnegan Family Head Coach for Harvard Skiing. "He's always been a tremendously dedicated skier and making the U23 team is the result of many years of hard work, including his time at Harvard. It's been thrilling to see what he's been able to achieve with the time to focus on his training and racing this season."
Maifeld-Carucci will be one of 10 athletes competing at the week-long championships. Pending the results of the championship, Maifeld and the rest of the field will have a chance to join the U.S. Ski Team in Candad for the World Cup, held March 1-12 in Canada.
"It's been a goal of Akeo's to represent the US in international competition for a long time, and it's especially wonderful to see him achieve it for a World Championships," said City. "Being selected for this team represents a huge step in his career, and I know he sees it as an honor to represent his country."
The Bozeman, Montana native made two appearances at the NCAA Championships during his days in Cambridg and was a co-captain in his final season. Maifeld-Carucci took home No. 25 in the 10K freestyle (27:10.8) at last season's NCAA Championship and closed out his career by crossing the finish line at the No. 31 spot in the 20K Classic MS (59:53.7).
